Premium Wellness Facilities for a Manchester City Centre Residential Development
Portrait Pools delivered a complete commercial wellness installation for a high-end residential apartment complex in the centre of Manchester. Designed to provide residents with a luxury spa and wellness experience, the project combined advanced commercial-grade engineering with premium architectural finishes and contemporary spa design.
The completed facility was created to rival the amenities found in leading luxury hotels and private members’ clubs, offering residents a fully integrated health, relaxation, and hydrotherapy environment within the development.
The Brief
The developer sought to create a standout wellness destination that would elevate the residential offering and provide a key lifestyle amenity for residents. The facilities needed to combine exceptional aesthetics with robust commercial performance, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and ease of maintenance in a high-usage environment.

The Solution
Portrait Pools designed and delivered a fully integrated commercial wellness suite featuring multiple thermal and hydrotherapy experiences.
At the centre of the space was a fully tiled deck-level overflow swimming pool maintained at 30°C, providing a sleek and contemporary appearance while delivering high-performance commercial functionality.
Alongside the main pool, a bespoke fully tiled vitality wellness pool was installed and maintained at 36°C. The vitality pool incorporated a range of hydrotherapy features designed to enhance relaxation, recovery, and circulation, including:
- Stainless steel in-pool tubular air massage lounger
- In-floor stainless steel volcano massage pad
- Wall-mounted water jet massage cannon
- Fully seated spa area with integrated air and water massage stations
To complement the thermal experiences, the suite also included a fully tiled chilled plunge pool maintained at 10°C, creating a complete contrast therapy circuit for residents.
Thermal Experiences
The thermal wellness offering included:
- A commercial glass-fronted sauna
- A fully tiled commercial steam room with integrated chromatherapy lighting
- Full-height glazed frontages to create openness and visual connectivity throughout the space
- A multifunction hot and cold experience shower to complete the thermal journey
Engineering & Environmental Control
All pools and wellness facilities were supported by a state-of-the-art commercial filtration and water treatment system. The installation utilised the Dryden Aqua Space system, providing fully automated chemical dosing and advanced water management to ensure exceptional water quality and operational efficiency.
The wellness suite was further supported by a fully ducted environmental control system designed to carefully manage humidity, temperature, and air quality throughout the facility, protecting finishes while maximising user comfort.
