A fully bespoke home wellness suite designed and delivered to create a premium spa experience within a private residence. The project combined high-end thermal experiences, custom finishes, and advanced environmental controls to achieve a seamless balance between luxury, performance, and wellbeing.
The completed space was conceived as a contemporary retreat, integrating hot and cold therapy experiences alongside architectural finishes typically found in luxury hospitality environments.
The Brief
The client wanted to transform an unused residential space into a fully immersive wellness environment that could rival the experience of a boutique spa. The brief called for a cohesive design language, premium materials, and a carefully controlled atmosphere that delivered both visual impact and long-term functionality.
Key priorities included:
Integrated hot and cold therapy experiences
A clean architectural aesthetic with natural materials
Concealed technical systems
Low-maintenance, high-performance finishes
Seamless coordination between wellness equipment and interior fit-out
The Solution
Portrait Pools delivered a complete turnkey wellness installation, coordinating all aspects of the spa and interior fit-out package.
The suite centred around a bespoke 3m x 2m tiled spa pool featuring an automatic concealed slatted cover system, allowing the pool to disappear seamlessly into the surrounding architecture when not in use.
Complementing the spa pool was a fully tiled 1.8m x 1.8m chilled plunge pool designed for contrast therapy and recovery treatments.
The thermal experiences included:
A deluxe American walnut sauna
A mosaic tiled steam room
Fully glazed frontages to both sauna and steam rooms to maximise openness and light throughout the suite
A multifunction hot and cold experience shower
Two handmade ceramic heated loungers for relaxation and recovery
To maintain optimal comfort and protect the integrity of the finishes, the suite incorporated a fully ducted environmental control system managing temperature, humidity, and air quality throughout the space.
Interior & Architectural Finishes
Beyond the wellness equipment itself, Portrait Pools completed the full interior fit-out package, ensuring a consistent luxury aesthetic across the entire suite.
The finish specification included:
Large-format feature tiling
Polished plaster walls
Complete stretch ceiling system with integrated lighting
Premium floor tiling throughout
The combination of natural textures, concealed lighting, and bespoke detailing created a calm, contemporary environment tailored to relaxation and wellbeing.
Outcome
The result was a fully integrated residential wellness suite that combines spa-grade functionality with luxury interior design.
